Once a small outpost for Southern New England wine making, Sakonnet has grown steadily both in size and popularity, making close to 30,000 cases of mostly vinifera-based wines. A lovely property with an adjoining Bed & Breakfast facility is certainly worth the visit. On our visit we were treated to a wonderful selection of wines, welcomed by Debbie Marion, the Winery’s Event Coordinator. We were made to feel right at home by Debbie’s friendly, down-to-earth demeanor. Every visitor should stay long enough to see the wonderful film “A Year in the Life,” a lovely movie about a year in the vineyard. The film is short (15 minutes), but does a wonderful job of connecting the viewer with the magic of growing grapes and turning them into wine.

A lovely winery and vineyard situated in a beautiful rustic setting. The Berntson family planted their first vines in 1976 and specialize in making Burgundian-style Pinot Noir, slowly aged in French oak. The winery also produces a number of other grape and fruit based wines. The grounds are lovely and tranquil and are available for garden party events. Claire Berntson, our host in the tasting room is friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable, making our visit quite memorable. An unexpected gem in northeast Rhode Island.
