Visiting Wineries – California – Central Coast

A helpful link listing Central Coast Winery information: (

Many of the wineries in the Central Coast area do not have tasting facilities at the wineries. Instead, many of the wines can be tasted at the Los Olivos Tasting Room, located conveniently in the center of town. Highly Recommended! (
2905 Grand Ave., Los Olivos CA 93441
Phone: (805) 688-7406

Bonny Doon Vineyard (
2485 Highway 46 West, Paso Robles CA 93446
Phone: (805) 239-5614

Worth a trip if you like wines/grapes from the Rhone Valley. The tasting room in Paso Robles is not located with the winery or vineyard, so if you want to tour as well as taste, you need to go to the winery in Santa Cruz.

Firestone Vineyards (
5017 Zaca Station Rd., Los Olivos, CA 93441
Phone: (805) 688-3940

A nice stop with high quality wines and lovely, etched crystal tasting glasses. The reserve Cabernets are great.

Grey Wolf Cellars (
2174 Hwy 46 West, Paso Robles, CA 93446
Phone: (805) 237-0771

Small family-run (the Barton family) operation making some really nice wine. Our favorites are the Zinfandels, standard and reserve bottles.

Mastantuono Winery (
2720 Oak View Rd., Templeton CA 93465
Phone: (805) 238-0676

Small family-run operation specializing in Italian varieties, as well as the usual Cabernet and Chardonnay wines. On our last visit, the Muscat Canelli, a sweet dessert wine really stood out.

Alma Rosa Winery (
7250 Santa Rosa Rd., Buellton, CA 93427
Phone: (805) 688-9090 or (805) 688-9001

One of our all time favorite Central Coast wineries. A must visit if you’re in the area. Exceptional Pinot Noir by any standard.

York Mountain Winery (
7505 York Mountain Rd. West, Templeton, CA 93465
Phone: (805) 238-3925

Billed as the “oldest winery in continuous operation” in the Central Coast region. We visited under prior ownership and had a lovely time. Our favorites were the Pinot Noirs and a wonderful California Sherry.

Zaca Mesa Winery (
6905 Foxen Canyon Road, Los Olivos, CA 93441
Phone: (805) 688-9339 ext. 308

Another of our all time favorite Central Coast wineries. A must visit if you like wines based on the varieties of the Rhone. Some of the best West Coast Syrah comes from Zaca Mesa. It was a sad day when their wine club stopped shipping to Massachusetts. Perhaps with changing legislation, these treasures will find their way back.
