Introductory Wine Appreciation
- Do you enjoy wine and want to know more about it?
- Would you like to increase your confidence when ordering wine in restaurants
or choosing from the large variety available at your local wine store?
- Are you interested in learning more about the techniques surrounding wine

This introductory course has been designed to give students the basics to further
their wine appreciation, and will introduce students to the different regions,
grape varieties, and traditions involved in wine making.
Students will have the opportunity to taste and compare wines from the major
wine producing areas from around the world, including France, Italy, the US, Germany,
Spain, Portugal, Australia and Chile. In addition, this course will cover topics
such as pairing wine with food, decanting and serving, restaurant wine lists,
and proper storage and cellaring.
Classes are limited to 10; six wine glasses will be provided for use during each class.
The course consists of six (6), 2-hour sessions; one night a week beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The cost of the course is $150
Please note that the course will be conducted at a location in the Wrentham-Franklin-Norfolk area of Massachusetts.

Course Outline
Students will taste six wines during each class. Sanctioned INAO crystal glassware is provided.
- Week One: A brief history of wine, rules & etiquette,
tasting methodologies. Preview of three white and three red
wines.
- Week Two: Wines of France, including regional overviews
of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, Loire and Alsace.
- Week Three: Wines of Italy, including regional overviews
of Piedmont, Tuscany, Veneto and other areas.
- Week Four: Other European wines, including Spain,
Portugal, and Germany.
- Week Five: Wines of America, including regional overviews
of California, Oregon, Washington, New York and other areas.
- Week Six: Other “New World” wines, including
South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.
